Sony Music artists win at the 2021 Grammy Awards
The 63rd Grammy Awards took place last night at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, with many Sony Music artists scoring wins at the socially distanced ceremony.
Beyoncé made history with her 28th Grammy win, making her the most awarded female artist of all time. “I am so honoured, I’m so excited,” she said while accepting her trophy for Best R&B Performance for ‘Black Parade’.
Beyoncé also scored Best Music Video for ‘Brown Skin Girl’ featuring Blue Ivy and WizKid, plus Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song for her performance on Megan Thee Stallion’s ‘Savage’ remix.
H.E.R. was awarded Song of the Year at the ceremony for her track ‘I Can’t Breathe’, which was written in support of the Black Lives Matter movement.
“I didn’t imagine that my fear and my pain would turn into impact and it would possibly turn into change,” she said while accepting the prize. “And I think that’s what this is about… and that’s why I write music, that’s why I do this, so I’m so, so, so grateful”.
Harry Styles opened the awards show with an electrifying performance of ‘Watermelon Sugar’ and went on to win Best Pop Solo Performance for the song. There were also performances from BTS, Doja Cat, Miranda Lambert, Maren Morris and John Mayer.
KAYTRANADA took home Best Dance Recording for his track ‘10%’, as well as Best Dance/Electronic Album for BUBBA. Fiona Apple also won two awards, picking up Best Rock Performance for ‘Shameika’ and Best Alternative Music Album for Fetch the Bolt Cutters.
The Strokes’ The New Abnormal was crowned Best Rock Album, while Brittany Howard won Best Rock Song for ‘Stay High’. John Legend was awarded Best R&B Album for Bigger Love, celebrating the win remotely from his kitchen. SAINt JHN and Imanbek won Best Remixed Recording for ‘Roses’, which topped the UK singles chart last year.
