RNCM Young Artists shortlisted for a Times Higher Education Award
RNCM Young Artists, part of the Royal Northern College of Music’s learning and participation Engage programme and closely aligned with its Popular Music school, has been shortlisted for a Times Higher Education Award.
The scheme, supported by Sony Music UK’s Social Justice Fund, has been selected by the judges in the Widening Participation or Outreach Initiative of the Year category – which celebrates programmes that improve equality of opportunity for students from all backgrounds.
RNCM Young Artists focuses on aspiring young musicians aged 11-18 from under-served communities and expands on RNCM’s work to develop world-class artists and creative practitioners to help drive the music industry forward in a relevant and inclusive way. The SJF funding means the programme is subsidised, enabling no-fee places for half of the participants and a highly discounted place for the remaining 50%. Since 2022, Young Artists has provided opportunities for 92 young people to improve education, skills, and life chances, and opened up viable pathways to Higher Education.
The winners of the 20th THE Awards will be announced at a ceremony in Birmingham on 28 November.
