NAO’s interactive music video for ‘Orbit’ nominated at the 2020 Webby Awards
NAO’s AI-driven music video for ‘Orbit’ has been nominated at the 2020 Webby Awards, in the Volumetric Immersive and Mixed Reality category.
Created in collaboration with Sony Music UK’s 4th Floor Creative, RCA Label Group UK, Microsoft and Microsoft’s creative agency Listen, the project provides a unique experience by creating visualisations based on user inputs and cloud-point data collected from a dancing NAO.
The interactive video is themed around the concept of ‘Saturn return’: an astrological transit that occurs when the planet Saturn returns to the same place in the sky that it occupied at the moment of a person’s birth.
To customise their ‘Orbit’ experience the viewer enters their birthday, initiating the launch of a zodiac-filled night sky in which NAO and a dancer move. Colours of the sky and stars can be adjusted as the AI picks up the different constellations in the dancer’s bodies, as well as the viewer’s own astrological sign.

In addition, two 4th Floor Creative and Columbia Records UK projects were shortlisted as Webby Honourees: Mark Ronson’s interactive Instagram video for ‘Pieces of Us’ ft. King Princess in the Social: Best Use of Stories category, and George Ezra & Friends in the Podcasts: Music category.
