Joy Crookes shortlisted for BRITs 2020 Rising Star Award
Joy Crookes has been shortlisted for the BRITs 2020 Rising Star Award, which is given to acts the music industry predicts will find success next year.
Previous winners of the accolade – formerly known as the BRITs Critics’ Choice Award – include Rag’n’Bone Man, Adele, Florence + The Machine and Sam Smith.
This year’s Rising Star winner will receive a performance slot at the main BRITs show, which takes place on 18th February 2020.
Speaking about her nomination, Joy Crookes said, “I remember watching the BRITs as a child – especially seeing my favourites like Lily Allen, Corinne Bailey Rae and Amy Winehouse up on the screen.
I’ve always looked up to these inspiring and strong women, so to be able to be recognised in the same way they were is insane – thank you so much to anyone who has supported me to get here!”
The nomination tops what has been an incredible 12 months for Joy: she released critically-acclaimed EPs Reminiscence and Perception, performed at Radio 1’s Big Weekend and Glastonbury festival and played sold-out headline shows across the UK and Europe.
The winner of the BRITs 2020 Rising Star Award will be announced on Friday 6th December.
