Jake Bugg releases short film for new track ‘Saviours of the City’
Jake Bugg has released a short film for his acoustic track ‘Saviours of the City’, filmed during lockdown alongside directing collective High Art.
Co-directed by Jake himself, the video is a hyperreality punctuated by psychedelic dreams, ‘60s counter-culture and post-rave comedowns.
Created in collaboration with High Art and produced by Playhouse Pictures, it was self-filmed and directed over video calls and messaging apps.
In keeping with the song’s reflective lyrics, the short film touches upon themes of isolation, burden and freedom of expression.
“I wrote [‘Saviours of the City’] last year with my mate Robert [aka ONR],” said Jake. “It’s a song I didn’t envisage releasing this early, but it seems to resonate with what’s going on right now and makes sense of it for me in some ways.”
‘Saviours of the City’ provides the follow-up Bugg’s 2019 single ‘Kiss Like the Sun’, his debut release since signing to RCA Records.
